Music Video Reflection - 1 minute music video

 Reflection -

Firstly, I was happy with how I went to my three locations first to take test shots. This proved effective as I was able to plan what time period I had to film in without the weather changing and this then prevented the colours throughout the video changing to drastically. Although in the middle of the music video, in one of the shots the sky was a slightly different colour, this then broke up the music video slightly. I was also pleased with how I planned where I was going to film what locations and where I would out them in the video. This was effective as it gave structure to my filming, which then resulted in me being more proficient in filming the video. Another thing I was happy with was how I over filmed a lot of the shots. By filming the actors dancing and lip-syncing throughout the whole song in all three locations provided me with lots of footage and then I was able to cut down on this footage with a lot of spare shots just in case one of them didn’t work within the music video. Another factor that I was satisfied within my music video, is how I gave the actors very specific directions that lead to a more constructed music video. If I didn’t give specific directions to the actors, it would have led to a more disjointed music video that hadn’t incorporated my own intentions on how I wanted it to be.

However, one of the things that didn’t work well within my music video, is that I needed to be more specific in my storyboarding. My storyboard was quite vague and had very long shots that would not have worked with the music and within the music video. To improve, I need to included much more detail and think more carefully about how long my shots need to be. Secondly, I needed to be more precise when filming the music video so I could actually hear the music been filmed within the actual video. In some of my shots the lip-synching was slightly off, this was a result of not being able to hear the music that was being filmed in the actual video. To improve, I need to make sure that when filming I have the music speaker right next to the camera so it can be more effective when editing to get the lip-synching more accurate. Another factor that I need to improve, is my use of costuming. Looking back on the music video it had looked the actors had just turned up from a day out. This was ineffective and potentially weakened my music video as they didn’t look like they had a purpose to be there. The costuming also was ineffective within relating within the mise-en-scene, to improve I need to think about my costuming and how that will relate to the music (potentially in the lyrics) and how it fits within my music video as a whole.
